Steve Jones was born in Munich, Germany, to an American father, a U.S. Air Force veteran stationed in Germany, and a Bavarian mother. From an early age, Steve showed an innate curiosity and knack for tinkering with mechanical devices. At the tender age of seven, he began his journey into the world of mechanics by fixing bicycles and mini-bikes in his neighborhood.

Passion Ignited:

During his high school years, Steve's passion for mechanics intensified. He transitioned from bicycles to working on family vehicles, demonstrating a natural aptitude for diagnosing and repairing automotive issues. Steve made the bold decision to drop out of school in the 9th grade to pursue an apprenticeship at a local BMW dealership in Berchtesgaden, Bavaria. In 1983, Steve made a pivotal decision to move to the United States. He landed a job as the head mechanic at Silver Star Motorsports, a Mercedes-Benz repair facility located in Pompano Beach, Florida. It was here that Steve honed his skills and gained invaluable experience, particularly in building Koenig wide-body Mercedes vehicles. Silver Star eventually became an official AMG distributor for the Southeast region, further enriching Steve's expertise in Mercedes-Benz performance engineering.

The RENNTech Era:

Steve's path intersected with the future founder of RENNTech, marking a significant turning point in his career. Recognizing Steve's exceptional talent, he was appointed as the Head of Engine Development at RENNTech. Over the next two decades, Steve oversaw the creation of numerous iconic RENNTech Mercedes-Benz builds from the 1980s and 1990s. These groundbreaking models, such as the original EV12, garnered widespread

acclaim and were featured in esteemed automotive publications. Steve's craftsmanship also attracted a clientele of celebrities, athletes, and famous musicians insearch of "best-of-the-best" custom automotive creations.

Personal and Professional Growth:

In 2008, Steve forged a lifelong bond with newly hired Pierre, the future owner of European Starr. The following year, he relocated to Sarasota, Florida, where he expanded his repertoire by mastering the art of building engines for air-cooled Porsches at a local performance facility. Steve's dedication to continuous learning and mastery of his craft propelled him to new heights in the automotive industry.

Legacy Continues:

In 2024, Steve embarked on a new chapter in his illustrious career by reuniting with Pierre at European Starr. Accepting the role of Head of Engine Development and Restoration, Steve brings decades of expertise and a passion for excellence to the team.
